About the Gear

Powerful Lighting for the Road, the Campsite, and Beyond

Some situations demand more than a conventional camping lantern. Working beside a vehicle after dark, illuminating a large outdoor workspace, or managing an unexpected roadside emergency requires powerful, adaptable lighting that can be positioned exactly where it's needed. The Fenix CP50R Road Hazard & Camping Lantern combines high-output illumination, dedicated warning-light functions, and versatile mounting options in a distinctive triangular design built for demanding environments.

With a maximum combined output of 5,500 lumens and a beam distance of up to 1,476 feet (450 meters), the CP50R delivers an exceptional combination of wide-area coverage and long-distance visibility. Its independent spotlight and floodlight can be used separately or together, allowing you to illuminate nearby tasks, reach farther into the distance, or combine both lighting patterns when greater coverage is required.

The floodlight offers continuously adjustable brightness and color temperature, ranging from a warm 2700K to a crisp 6500K. Warmer light can create a more comfortable environment around a campsite or outdoor gathering, while cooler light may be preferable for equipment inspection, repairs, and detailed work. The spotlight maintains a fixed cool-white output for focused illumination at greater distances.

The CP50R also incorporates five dedicated warning-light modes, including constant red, flashing red, chasing red, flashing yellow, and constant green. Its distinctive triangular shape resembles a conventional hazard warning symbol, making it particularly useful as an additional visibility aid during roadside stops, vehicle maintenance, and worksite activities. These lighting functions supplement rather than replace legally required emergency equipment or approved warning devices.

Power comes from two included Fenix ARB-L21-6000 rechargeable 21700 batteries, each providing 6,000 mAh of capacity. Together, they support extended operation, with a maximum advertised runtime of 240 hours on the lowest floodlight setting. Convenient USB-C charging allows the batteries to be recharged inside the lantern, while USB-A and USB-C power output provides an additional way to supply power to compatible devices when electricity is limited.

One of the CP50R's most practical features is its 360-degree rotating magnetic handle. The lantern can be carried, suspended, or attached to suitable steel surfaces, allowing the beam to be directed toward a work area without occupying your hands. A threaded tripod socket provides another mounting option for situations requiring a stable, elevated lighting position.

The lantern's rugged aluminum-alloy construction and IP66 dustproof and water-resistant rating make it suitable for demanding outdoor conditions. Intelligent overheat protection automatically adjusts output when operating temperatures rise, helping manage the considerable heat generated by its high-performance LEDs.

Whether you're preparing for a remote camping trip, maintaining a vehicle, working outdoors after sunset, or assembling a more comprehensive emergency kit, the Fenix CP50R offers serious illumination and adaptable functionality in one powerful lighting tool.

Spotlight, Floodlight, or Both

Different environments require different approaches to lighting. The CP50R gives you the flexibility to choose between a broad floodlight for nearby activities and a concentrated spotlight for reaching farther into the distance.

The floodlight is especially useful for illuminating workspaces, campsite cooking areas, or the ground around a vehicle. Its adjustable color temperature allows you to select warmer illumination for comfort or cooler light for detailed tasks.

The spotlight provides a more concentrated beam for long-distance visibility, while the combined mode brings both lighting systems together for maximum coverage. This versatility makes the CP50R useful across situations that would otherwise require several separate lighting devices.

Designed for Roadside Preparedness

Unexpected vehicle problems rarely happen at a convenient time. When a breakdown, tire change, or mechanical issue occurs after dark, dependable hands-free illumination can make the situation easier to manage.

The CP50R's magnetic mounting system allows it to attach to suitable metal surfaces, while its rotating handle makes positioning straightforward. The dedicated warning-light functions provide additional visibility options when appropriate, helping distinguish the lantern from conventional camping lights.

Always prioritize moving to a safe location, using legally required vehicle warning equipment, and avoiding exposure to moving traffic. The CP50R is a useful supplemental lighting tool, not a replacement for certified roadside warning devices.

More Power for Extended Adventures

Remote camping and outdoor travel often mean limited access to electrical outlets. The CP50R addresses this with two high-capacity rechargeable batteries, efficient lower-output settings, and the convenience of USB-C charging.

Its built-in power-bank capability provides additional flexibility for compatible phones and small electronic devices, although available charging capacity depends on the lantern's remaining battery level and operating conditions.

For extended trips, the ability to illuminate a campsite, power a compatible device, and position the lantern hands-free makes the CP50R a valuable addition to a well-equipped vehicle or outdoor kit.

Built for Demanding Environments

The CP50R is designed to handle more than occasional backyard use. Its aluminum-alloy housing, weather-resistant construction, and adaptable mounting system make it suitable for camping, outdoor work, vehicle maintenance, and emergency preparedness.

Its intelligent thermal management helps regulate brightness when operating temperatures become excessive, while the dual rotary controls provide convenient adjustment of output and floodlight color temperature.

For those who value dependable, multipurpose equipment, the Fenix CP50R brings professional-style illumination and practical versatility to life outdoors.

Care, Use & Setup

Charge Before Use

Open the protective charging-port cover and connect a suitable USB-C charging cable and power source. The battery-level indicators illuminate progressively during charging and remain steady when charging is complete. Charging from depleted batteries takes approximately three hours or longer under suitable conditions. Disconnect the cable and close the port cover after charging.

Select Floodlight, Spotlight, or Combined Lighting

With the lantern switched off, rotate the large control clockwise to activate the floodlight. Press the electronic switch to cycle between Floodlight, Spotlight, and Combined modes.

Adjust Brightness

In the general lighting modes, rotate the large control clockwise to increase brightness or counterclockwise to reduce it. Rotate fully counterclockwise to switch the lantern off.

Adjust Color Temperature

In Floodlight or Combined mode, use the smaller rotary control to adjust the floodlight between cooler and warmer white light. The spotlight maintains a fixed color temperature.

Activate Warning Lights

With the lantern switched off, press and hold the electronic switch for approximately 0.5 seconds to enter warning mode. Briefly press the switch to cycle through constant red, flashing red, chasing red, flashing yellow, and constant green. Press and hold again to switch off.

Position the Lantern

Use the rotating magnetic handle to attach the lantern securely to a suitable steel surface, suspend it from an appropriate support, or place it on a stable surface. A compatible tripod can also be attached using the threaded mounting socket.

Use the Power-Bank Function

Connect a compatible electronic device to the lantern's USB-A or USB-C output using an appropriate charging cable. Both outputs support device charging, subject to the manufacturer's power limits and available battery capacity.

Check Battery Level

With the lantern switched off, briefly press the electronic switch. Four indicators represent approximately 80–100% battery capacity; three indicate 60–80%; two indicate 40–60%; one indicates 20–40%; and one flashing indicator means the battery is below approximately 20%.

Safety and Storage

High-output operation generates substantial heat. Avoid touching hot surfaces, covering the operating lantern, or placing it against flammable materials. Remove the batteries before storing the lantern in a confined space where accidental activation could create a hazard. Use warning-light functions only where permitted by applicable laws.
