About the Product

Experience the distinctive character of Japanese single-cultivar matcha with Samidori Ceremonial Grade Matcha from Isshiki. Sourced from the renowned tea-growing region of Uji, Japan, this carefully selected first-harvest green tea offers a smooth, creamy drinking experience with a vibrant green colour, rich umami character and subtle nutty undertones.

Samidori is a Japanese tea cultivar appreciated for its refined flavour and naturally mellow character. Rather than blending multiple cultivars, Isshiki's single-cultivar approach allows the particular qualities of Samidori to remain at the centre of the experience. The result is a matcha designed to be enjoyed traditionally with water, allowing its flavour, texture and aroma to develop without the need for additional ingredients.

Harvested during the first flush of spring, this ceremonial-grade matcha is selected for its freshness and quality. Like other traditionally prepared matcha powders, it is made from finely ground green tea leaves, meaning the tea itself is consumed rather than simply steeped and discarded. Matcha naturally provides caffeine, L-theanine and a variety of tea polyphenols, including catechins.

Whether whisked into a smooth morning bowl, enjoyed as a quiet afternoon ritual or incorporated into a creamy matcha latte, Isshiki Samidori offers a thoughtful way to bring Japanese tea tradition into everyday life. Each 30g tin provides approximately 20–30 servings, depending on preparation strength.

Ingredients & Nutrition

Ingredient: Samidori single-cultivar Japanese green tea (matcha) powder.

Origin: Uji, Japan.

Naturally occurring compounds: Caffeine, L-theanine and green tea polyphenols, including catechins.

How to Use

Traditional Matcha Preparation

  1. Sift approximately 1–1.5g of Samidori matcha into a matcha bowl to remove clumps.
  2. Add approximately 60–80ml of hot water at around 70–80°C (158–176°F).
  3. Whisk briskly using a bamboo matcha whisk (chasen), moving in a gentle zigzag pattern until the powder is evenly dispersed and a fine foam forms.
  4. Enjoy immediately, adjusting the amount of water or matcha to suit your preferred strength.

Matcha Latte

Prepare the matcha with a small amount of warm water, then combine with approximately 150–200ml of your preferred warmed or chilled milk or plant-based alternative. Sweeten to taste if desired.

Iced Matcha

Whisk the matcha with a small amount of warm water until smooth, then pour over ice and add chilled water or milk.

Storage: Keep the tin tightly sealed in a cool, dry place away from direct sunlight, heat and moisture. Follow any specific storage instructions provided on the packaging.

The Distinctive Character of Samidori

Not all matcha tastes the same. The cultivar, growing conditions, harvest and processing methods can all influence the final character of the tea. Samidori is particularly appealing for those who appreciate a softer, creamier matcha experience, with a rounded umami flavour and delicate nutty notes that distinguish it from more robust or noticeably bitter green teas.

Isshiki's single-cultivar Samidori allows these qualities to be appreciated without blending them with other varieties. Prepared traditionally with hot water and a bamboo whisk, the fine powder develops a smooth texture and vibrant green appearance, making it well suited to anyone who enjoys exploring the subtleties of Japanese tea.

Beyond its flavour, the preparation of matcha can become a simple daily ritual. Taking a few minutes to measure, sift and whisk the tea creates an opportunity to slow down, focus on the present moment and enjoy nourishment as an experience rather than another task to complete.
