About the Product

Discover the classic character of Japanese green tea with Yabukita Ceremonial Grade Matcha from Isshiki. Made from first-harvest Yabukita tea leaves, this carefully produced single-cultivar matcha offers a balanced combination of fresh green tea flavour, subtle natural sweetness and a pleasantly clean finish.

Yabukita is one of Japan's most widely cultivated tea varieties, appreciated for its versatility and recognizable green tea character. Isshiki's Yabukita is shade-grown before harvest and traditionally stone-ground into a fine powder, helping preserve its vibrant green appearance and smooth texture. Its flavour combines freshness and gentle sweetness with a touch of natural astringency, creating a well-rounded matcha that can be enjoyed in a variety of preparations.

Unlike single-purpose teas intended primarily for drinking with water, Yabukita's balanced character makes it particularly adaptable. It can be whisked traditionally into a smooth bowl of matcha, combined with milk for a creamy latte, or incorporated into smoothies and selected recipes where its distinctive green tea flavour can complement other ingredients.

Isshiki describes this as the everyday matcha served at its New York City café, reflecting its approachable flavour and consistent character. Each 30g tin provides approximately 20–30 servings, depending on preparation strength, making it a practical choice for anyone looking to introduce a more deliberate tea ritual into their daily routine.

Whether you're exploring matcha for the first time or looking for a versatile Japanese green tea to enjoy regularly, Isshiki Yabukita brings together traditional cultivation, thoughtful preparation and the simple pleasure of a well-made cup.

Ingredients & Nutrition

Ingredient: Yabukita single-cultivar Japanese green tea (matcha) powder.

Cultivation: Shade-grown before harvest.

Processing: First-harvest tea leaves, traditionally stone-ground into a fine powder.

Naturally occurring compounds: Caffeine, L-theanine and green tea polyphenols, including catechins.

How to Use

Traditional Matcha Preparation

  1. Sift approximately 1–1.5g of Yabukita matcha powder into a matcha bowl to help remove clumps.
  2. Add approximately 60–80ml of hot water at around 70–80°C (158–176°F). Avoid boiling water, which may emphasize bitterness.
  3. Whisk briskly using a bamboo matcha whisk (chasen), moving in a gentle zigzag motion until the powder is evenly dispersed and a fine layer of foam develops.
  4. Enjoy immediately, adjusting the amount of water or matcha to suit your preferred strength.

Matcha Latte

Whisk approximately 1–2g of matcha with a small amount of warm water until smooth. Add 150–200ml of warmed milk or your preferred plant-based alternative, then sweeten lightly if desired.

Iced Matcha

Prepare a concentrated matcha mixture using a small amount of warm water, then pour over ice and add chilled water or milk.

Smoothies & Recipes

Add a small amount of matcha powder to smoothies, yogurt bowls or selected recipes for its distinctive green tea flavour. Begin with a modest quantity and adjust to taste.

Storage: Keep the tin tightly sealed in a cool, dry place away from direct sunlight, heat and moisture. Follow any additional storage instructions on the packaging.

Yabukita: The Classic Character of Japanese Matcha

Yabukita has become one of the defining cultivars of Japanese green tea, valued for its balanced flavour and adaptability. Its combination of fresh vegetal aromas, gentle sweetness and mild astringency creates a distinctive profile that works beautifully in both traditional and contemporary tea preparations.

Isshiki's single-cultivar approach allows the natural character of Yabukita to remain at the centre of the experience. The tea leaves are shaded before harvesting and finely stone-ground, producing a vibrant green powder that can be whisked directly into water. This traditional preparation allows the matcha's flavour and texture to be appreciated without additional ingredients, while its balanced taste also makes it an excellent choice for lattes and other recipes.

For those building a daily matcha habit, Yabukita offers an approachable balance between flavour, versatility and ritual. The simple act of preparing a bowl of tea can become a familiar moment of attention, encouraging a more deliberate beginning to the day or a thoughtful pause in the afternoon.
